Hamilton Basso (1904 - May 13, 1964), was an American novelist and journalist. He was an associate editor at The New Yorker for more than 20 years. He wrote 11 novels, primarily about the South. His best-known work is The View from Pompey's Head, a story of a New York attorney who returns to his southern home to investigate a mystery around a famous writer.

Hamilton Basso was a relatively well-known Southern writer from the Thirties through the mid-Fifties whose most familiar novel was The View from Pompey's Head, published in 1954.
