Passy emphasizes that the sides stick to their assurances that the case of the six Bulgarians, which has entered into its fifth year, is not and cannot be subject to any political considerations. Passy expresses a hope for a fair outcome of the trial. His reply comes two days before the first American-British strike on Iraq. Passy says that there is a bond of friendship between the people of Bulgaria and Iraq, which goes back many decades. He assures Saif al-Islam that the people of Bulgaria have constantly stood by the people of Iraq. At the same time, Passy recalls that Bulgaria has declared itself in favour of disarmament of Saddam Hussein's regime.

SOLOMON PASSY is Prof. Isac Passy's son. He was born in 1956 in Sofia. The traditional pro-European family orientation is perhaps responsible for the fact that Mr. Passy, Jr. is the founder and president of the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria (since 1991). In the Bulgarian press he became something of a legend with his illustrious little "Trabant", in which even Manfred Woerner, the late NATO Secretary General, was given a ride. Solomon Passy was involved in the dissident movement under totalitarianism and was a deputy from the democratic opposition to the Grand National Assembly (1990-1991).
