Hagedorn Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn was born in Manilla, Philippines in 1949. With her mixed background, a Scotch-Irish-French-Filipino mother and a Filipino-Spanish father with one Chinese ancestor, Hagedorn adds a unique perspective to Asian American performance and literature.

Jessica Hagedorn's first novel, Dogeaters was nominated for a National Book Award in 1990 and was voted the best book of the year by the Before Columbus Foundation. She is also the author of Danger and Beauty: Poetry and Prose, as well as the editor of Charlie Chan is Dead: an Anthology of Contemporary Asian American Fiction. Gangster of Love was featured in a lengthy article in Time magazine a few monts after it came out - I don't remember much of the article though except that the review was a rave.

Jessica Hagedorn (”Dogeaters”), director Michael Greif and Mark Bennett have been creating and fine-tuning the play for six years.

Jessica Tarahata Hagedorn is one of the most celebrated Asian-American novelists in the country. Her bold and edgy novel Dogeaters has captured national attention and earned Hagedorn a 1990 National Book Award nomination and the American Book Award of the Before Columbus Foundation.
